Between nothing and about $1,500, depending entirely on how you get it. The spread is enormous because "CBT-I" describes the method, not the delivery, and the delivery is what you actually pay for.
How much does CBT-I cost?

The four routes
Route | Typical cost | The catch |
|---|---|---|
Behavioral sleep specialist | $150–250 a session, 6–8 sessions | Only a few hundred certified in the whole country. Waiting lists are long where they exist at all. |
Prescription digital therapeutic | Varies; insurance sometimes | Needs a physician appointment before you can buy it. |
Direct-to-consumer app | Free to about $200 | Whether it stops charging when the program ends. |
Employer or insurer | Free | Only if yours offers it. Several programs are distributed no other way. |
Check the free route first
Before you pay anything: look at your employer's benefits portal, ask your insurer whether they cover a digital sleep program, and if you are a veteran, ask the VA — CBT-I is offered through the VA system.
It costs one email to find out, and it is the cheapest advice on this page.
Where the money actually goes wrong
Not in the headline number. In the renewal.
Read app store reviews of this category and the same complaint recurs: a low introductory price, then a charge people did not expect once the introductory period ended. The program itself is rarely the grievance. The billing is.
So before you buy anything, find the sentence that answers: what happens when the program finishes? If a company has made that hard to locate, that is the answer.
The other four questions worth asking before choosing a program.
What Somnera costs
$79.99 once for the six-week program. That is the whole price of the program — no subscription to complete it, no renewal when it ends.
After you finish, continued nightly logging is available at $19.99 a month if you want it. It is optional, it starts only after completion, and nothing about the program is held back if you decline. We would rather say that plainly here than have you discover it later.
The assessment is free and gives you a real score regardless.
Is it worth it?
Worth asking against what you already spend. Melatonin, supplements, a better mattress, blackout curtains, a tracker — for many people that has already added up past the cost of a structured program, spent in pieces over a year without noticing.
And most of it is aimed at the wrong problem.
The other CBT-I articles cover what the six weeks actually contain, and whether self-guided is enough.
Somnera is a self-guided education program built on CBT-I, founded and written by Dr. Camilo Ruiz, DO, FACOI, FAASM. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace care from your own clinician.

Frequently asked questions
Sometimes, when delivered by a licensed provider billing as behavioral health. Coverage varies enormously by plan, and finding an in-network specialist is often the harder problem.
It is six to eight sessions with a specialist. Behavioral sleep medicine certification is rare, so the few who hold it are in demand.
Possibly. Some employers and insurers offer a digital program at no cost, and the VA provides CBT-I to veterans. Worth checking before you buy anything.
Usually the renewal. A low entry price that becomes a recurring charge after the program ends is the single most common complaint in app store reviews of this category.
